Walking Through the Valley of the Shadow
As a trained and certified hospice volunteer I saw, heard, and experienced a wide range of responses to death. I learned that the patient has usually come to terms with their imminent passing, but the families struggle more with it as the time grows closer. The hospice worker is there for the patient, but more importantly for the family. I thought this cover conveyed a bit of what it feels like to be a family member, friend, or hospice worker dealing with death. I plan to add a mountain range in the background - ghosted, but visible.
Suicide By Cop
This is the preliminary cover for a fiction book I'm writing now about a cop who kills a man armed with a knife - who leaves behind a note explaining he wanted officers to kill him. The book deals with the struggle officers have with people who can't kill themselves, but manage to convince the police to do it for them by threatening the officer's life. While I'm happy with this cover, it will most likely undergo additional revisions.
The Pink Pajama Traveling Club
The Pink Pajama Traveling Club underwent a variety of potential covers, from a very basic black and pink, to a composite of a small girl, to the last two images of a woman looking directly at the reader. The client opted for the last image - because it was of an older woman who fit her image of what her character would look like. Unless you know exactly what you want on your cover, it's important to get several images to choose from when deciding what cover you want. Each of these covers has a different feel and tone, and each one sets up different expectations in the reader as to what they'll find inside.
