With every other best selling business book I hear about being about “leadership, customer service, and respecting or honoring your tribe,” the outpouring of admiration and regrets over Steve Job’s stepping down from his position at Apple bothers me deeply.

Steve Jobs is stepping down from Apple, no longer able to carry on with the task of running the place. While the whole world mourns his creativity, his technical contributions to the world, which admittedly staggers the imagination, I notice that the tears are for his creations, not so much for him personally.

My MacBook finally died. Five hard drives in four years. Three batteries, four power cords. Three Apple genius bar employees told me over the life of the Apple Care warranty that it was a LEMON and I got “F***’d”…but their hands were tied - management didn’t allow them to honor the Apple Care warranty/promise - that there was a fine print clause that said they could “opt” to repair rather than replace the MacBook.
So, they spent like $3,400 in parts to replace constantly failing parts, case, hard drives, batteries. It …

Okay, I reread my rant about Apple this morning. My Mac is only getting worse. Apple is not going to do anything. I’m tired of it. You guys are tired of it. I’m saving my $$ for a new machine - I don’t know what yet. The cursor on this one jumps all over the place - Apple charges $49 PER service call and doesn’t guarantee an answer. At least I know I’m helping pay for Steve Jobs multi-billion dollar empire eh?

It’s not the size of the bird in the fight. It’s the size of fight in the bird. We assume, wrongly, that the larger, richer, more powerful person, corporation or animal in a fight will win any battle. What we often fail to take into account is the “size of fight” in the smaller opponent.
